My mum was watching a baking show where a 20 year old Muslim woman was a contestant. They had to make an alcoholic dessert. She nailed it despite not being able to taste it. In light of this UN climate change report, I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that Trudeau and Notley’s continued insistence on building the Kinder Morgan pipeline is supporting humanity’s extinction. According to the report, simply going on the path we’re already on will result in a 1.5 degrees celsius rise in global temperature by 2040, which would be catastrophic. I read this article the other night about tipping servers in Canada. Complaining that we make too much money, so people should tip us less or not at all. Saying how some of us average at 30 bucks an hour with no post secondary education. Like how dare we make decent money.
1. serving is not as easy as you’d think. I often give tables my best service and go above and beyond, and still get nothing because of this “I don’t believe in tipping” mindset!
2. we rarely actually rake in 30 an hour, and if we did it’s because we were hella busy or we had a really generous customer.
3. Maybe we’re working so we can get post secondary education, hello!
4. The person that wrote it was not even a server (obviously)!
5. If you’re so jealous about how much we make, then move to Canada and become a server!
6. Small town servers don’t make as much as big city servers!
7. BC has the lowest minimum wage in Canada, we make up to 4 dollars less per hour than servers in Quebec!
8. No one is asking you to tip 5 or 10 bucks on every meal! Every dollar counts to us, it really adds up! If everyone just tipped me 2 or 3 bucks that would be great!
9. Our bosses can legally pay us less than minimum wage on the assumption we make good tips.
In conclusion, WE EARN EVERY FUCKING DOLLAR WE MAKE FAIR AND SQUARE. EVEN IF “The service wasn’t great” WE WERE STILL WORKING OUR ASSES OFF IN THE BACK OF THE STORE OR WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS. IF WE WERE SITTING AROUND ON OUR PHONES, IT WAS PROBABLY OUR BREAK TIME, OR WE WERE DEALING WITH A FAMILY ISSUE. AND SOMETIMES WE HAVE BAD MOODS AND BAD DAYS BECAUSE PEOPLE DON’T FUCKING TIP US.

one of the millions of things i liked about spider-verse was that not only did all the female characters look different from each other, they gave mary jane her classic dimples and square chin, which might not seem like a big deal but you’d be surprised how much tiny details like those can make women in comic books look distinct
also seriously it feels like some animated films are pushing it to have two female characters who look even slightly different so i appreciate that spider-verse made sure every woman in it looked distinct from each other
